FIXED IT! My washing machine just died! Replace with washer/dryer?

The washing machine is specifically mentioned in the lease as not being guaranteed working, and in the event that it stops working it won't be replaced. The flat was unfurnished, the washing machine and fridge were included because the previous owner had left them behind. So really, fair enough. If I buy a new machine it's mine, I can take it with me when I leave. I'd probably try and sell it to the landlords, though.
I don't know why it lasted this long. I'm thinking it just didn't get used that often. My mum's makes more noise than mine does and hers is only 7 years old!
After a chat with my dad last night I've decided to investigate the pump and see if I can find a filter somewhere inside before I give up and decide to buy a new machine. If the pump's gone I could probably replace it myself for a lot less than price of a new machine.
I'm going to try and look for a service manual but failing that the pump should be fairly easy to find anyway. And yes, I will unplug it first
I think I must just have thick sheets
I tried folding them but only the few really thin ones I have ever dried like that. Drying in front of the window is a good diea, though, I didn'tthink of that. Thanks! :coffee:Coffee +3 Dexterity +3 Willpower -1 Ability to Sleep

I'd never have a washer/dryer again - the dryer part never works well in my opinionDownshifted

I had a washer/dryer once and I wouldn't buy one again. Better to buy a washing machine with a high spin speed so that clothes are drier when they come out of the washing machine." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I did it! I did it!
I fixed it!
I just opened up the back, took the hoses off the pump, mopped up all the filthy stinking water that peed out everywhere (I should've exected the pipe to be full of water duh) and fished around in the pump with a bent paperclip and pliers until I pulled out a nasty lump of cack. And now it works! Okay, I need a shower, but I just saved myself a heap of money. Totally worth it.
Of course this wouldn't have happend if the darned thing actually had a filter, but apparantly Hoover's cheaper washing machines don't have one. Or at least they don't have one anyone but an engineer is suppsoed to access. So when I eventually do need to buy a washing machine, I know a) Don't get a washer-dryer (thanks guys!) and b) get one with a filter that you can empty.:coffee:Coffee +3 Dexterity +3 Willpower -1 Ability to Sleep

Congratulations! Arn't you clever?! That's something I don't think I would ever have had the nerve to try and tackle out. So at least you don't need to buy a new machine now. But if the time ever does come, I recommend you check out the Hotpoint washing machine which has the 1600 rpm spin. We've got one and it really does take an awful lot of moisture out of the laundry and makes getting it dried a lot shorter process. I haven't used my tumble drier once since we bought it.0
