Digital Recorder Help Please

Having searched the net the past couple of months and after visiting Curry's I am more confused. I use my video recorder daily but only need a basic one. I understand that if I get a freeview one I wouldn't need a set top box which I like the idea of, but it would be nice to watch one channel and view another 2 at the same time.

Ideally I would like to buy from Argos as I have quite a few vouchers, please can someone offer me advice as which to buy, freeview or digital recorder. Thanks Diane

I have had a Humax PVR 9100 for about 3 / 4 years now and I think it's a vast improvement over video recorders. It has a high capacity for keeping recordings (160 gb) and the picture quality is excellent. You can record 2 channels simultaneously. As you say it also provides Freeview. I am aware that this model is probably no longer available but I would check out whatever is their latest model to see what it provides. Mine cost around £200 (3 / 4 years ago). There are other makes on the market so make a list of what you need and check them out. Some PVr's have only a single tuner so you can only record 1 channel at a time and can't watch another channel while recoding so i would look for a twin tuner.

I've had the Humax PVR 9200T for a couple of years now and its vastly superior to a VCR. Although now discontinued you can still get reconditioned ones here:

Try looking on E-bay at how much these go for used. They hold their value remarkably well making the recon ones, with a one year warranty, a bargain in my opinion.

    £189 for ' twinnie on HD & Upscaler http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.asp?ProdRef=10072&cat=stb

I bought two of these [ sat version ] for a mate of mine in the serious wilds of the Scottish mountains where he could only get three terrestrial channels in total.

The HD & Upscaler is magic, all channels, even those broadcast in SD are displayed in HD. Worth every single penny of the extra money see this review on your preferred freeview :

And yes !, any Geordie or Smoggie would know where the good stuff is !

Correction to my earlier mail. I have the Humax PVR 9200T (not the 9100 as previously stated). A very good machine but now an old model.
