Ouch, is right:eek: I hope that hasn't been going on for long! For 512K, there is no way you should be paying more than £14.99, and you should be able to get it cheaper.
As for recommendations, https://www.adslguide.org.uk and https://www.ispreview.co.uk give long lists of providers, speed provided and monthly charge. You should not have to pay a connection fee - even if the provider you're moving to/from doesn't support migration (i.e. if your present provider refuses to give you a migration access code (MAC) or your chosen provider can't use it), you should still be able to find an ISP that offers free connection (and often free filter, modem and no long-term contract either). It's very difficult to give a recommendation, because, as you'll see from the boards above, for every person who says 'XXX are fantastic', someone else will say they're rubbish.
However, I've heard good reports of the following: Plusnet, Virgin, Supanet, Eclipse, Big Blue and Madasafish.
If your'e paying for a phone as well as the broadband connection, it might be cheaper to change that as well - have a look at Martin's article http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1095003038,99872, for details0 -
I wrote a nice letter to my own BB company asking nicely if they couldn't do it just for free for us!
They did! modem as well = )
Now my scouts have free BB which, unfortunately since they've broken up isn't actually getting a lot of use right now...Tim0
