Apparently (I know this sounds ridiculous), the one part of the opening up of the line rental market not to have been done as 'transparently' (I hate that word) as it should have been is the transfer from one non-BT provider to another.
It appears that you do, indeed, have to go back to BT first and that requires you to agree to a 12 month contract for line rental with BT.
OTOH, you can opt for a CPS calls provider immediately so you should be able to opt for Primus Saver CPS and, a year on, change line rental to Primus too.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Thanks for your advice. If I go to BT, do I have to make a call a month or something along those lines to remain on the package?
In your opinion, how do I ensure that I don't get stuck in the renewable system that BT have introduced. If it is to be, it is up to me0 -
Just joined Primus yesterday, still with BT for landline though.
My advise try and sign up online when you do, I did it over phone and it was hard work trying to get Indian guy to understand what I said
I dont use BT for calls just pay landline and caller display and use CPS for Onetel and 18866 for some calls which I am leaving Ontel due to harassment from talk talk owner of Onetel0 -

Only the free version of the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan is subject to that 12 month 'renewable' contract so, insist on only being put on the Unlimited Weekend Plan.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
