Help required! I and two other mates are travelling up to Newcastle from London for a stag do on Friday 26th June and returning on Sunday 28th. As the trip is only a few weeks away we have missed all the Advance bookings deal but I was hoping if anyone might know of any other deals which could be of help?! I read somewhere that it might be worth buying a return to York then another return from York to Newcastle. Myth or truth? Any advice would be much appreciated! Btw currently the best dela I have found is £85 return each...

    £64.55 return ok?

    Outward Journey
    Departing: 06:15
    Arriving: 09:36
    Std Class Advance Single
    Cost: £23.60

    Return Journey
    Departing: 08:00
    Arriving: 11:26
    Std Class Advance Single
    Cost: £40.95

    Total Cost £64.55
The return journey can be done on several trains, but to keep this price you need to travel out on the 06:15 from Kings Cross.

    Splitting may produce further savings.

Or he could use Grand Central Trains into Sunderland which would be a lot cheaper then get the Metro to newcastle.

    Really?
I must admit that I had overlooked Grand Central Trains. My mistake.
Having now looked at their site, their cheapest fare from London to Sunderland appears to be £71 offpeak return.
Please let us all know if I have missed something.

Ive got it down to £32 each way if he gets a advance single each way so would be £64 return and if he books it with first great western,s site then he could get another £5 off each ticket with there £5 off each booking offer so he could get it for £27 each way so could get it for £54 return which is not too bad.

But Rich_shot, you did say using Grand Central would be "a lot cheaper".
Can you please demonstrate how that might be so?

The prices quoted here are not available on First Great Western's website and are therefore not eligible for the £5 off deal.
As mentioned in an earlier post of mine, the KGX-NCL return can be done for £64.55. This price includes a 10% NX online discount. See the NXEC website for details.
So in summary, you can have FGW's £5 off or NXEC's 10% discount... you can't have both.
