On occasions I buy things I think are going to be realy useful and then when it arives home and I try it, think maybe it was not a good buy after all. I bought a iron with seperate water tank and soon found out it was to big for my small ironing needs and went back to my usual smaller iron.

I often think - if I still think I need the same item tomorrow I will buy it if I can't find it cheeper anywhare else.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Noooo! I love it too much, I get pleasure from just knowing I own it lol. Everytime my husband see's it he say "Can we get rid of that yet?" and I always say "No it's going to look lovely in that big country house we will live in one day...." :D

I think the reason I can't freecycle/charity shop these things is because I truly do intend to use them ONE DAY - I just can't be sure when that will be!

Fabric. Yarn. Spinning wheels. Got eight spinning wheels and no sane human needs that many even if they do teach and demo a lot. They were all bargains though!

Oh I don't know, if your students need to borrow any or if you have different styles/periods.

What kind do you have? I have an Ashford.

I must admit to having two hoze timer water thingamajigs with that where massively reduced to a £10 each. I live in a terrace house with a small, grim, heavy shaded back yard. Hopefully at some point in the feature ill be able to get an allotment. or nice back yard.

I have an old handmade spinning wheel which I bought to spin all my dog hair (I have 9 hairy dogs). Well, I learned to spin - only problem is I don't know how to knit :o:o

Well how about weaving? There are numerous methods that need anything from fullscale looms to a few old playing cards (tablet weaving) or on an inkle loom.

You can see some examples http://www.vicus.org.uk/weaver/weavermain.html
