Newbie needing help with scrappage scheme

Hello
Im new to the forums and was wondering if someone could help me clear a few things up. I really need a new car as i know my car will fail its MOT which is due at the end of April 2010. The scrappage scheme has been extended till the 31st March 2010 by car was registered on the 30th March 2000. I've looked around and most websites are saying that the car must be registered before 28th February 2000 but most of these websites posts are out of date now.

If i went to buy a new car on the 30th March or pre ordered one for this date would my car count for the scrappage scheme? Also has anyone heard if dealers are offering good deals after the 31st March 2010.

Thanks

This is from the Government site - which means Im afraid your car is not eligible. However, some of the manufacturers are running their own scrappage schemes for cars over 7 years old. Do you have to have a NEW car? What is your budget?

Vehicle scrappage scheme – final stage and last date for orders

On 4 February 2010 the government announced that an extra month has been added to the deadline for the government scrappage scheme to help manufacturers and dealers prepare for and operate the final stage of the scheme.
Subject to agreement by manufacturers (consumers should check with dealers that the relevant manufacturer has agreed) the scheme will now run until the end of March or until the money runs out, whichever is sooner. The budget remains the same and there are no changes to the eligibility criteria.

    Extra funding for scrappage scheme

On 28 September 2009, the government announced plans for a further £100 million funding for the scrappage scheme. This means that the scheme will now cover up to 400,000 vehicles.
The rules of the scheme will be unchanged except for the date of first registration in the UK. The registration date for cars will change to 29 February 2000 or before, while for vans it will change to 28 February 2002 or before.
These changes are now in effect. Consumers should check with their dealers that they have started implementing the new terms.

    Hyundai’s ’scrap scheme’

hyundai-post-scrappage-scheme-wow.jpgSCRAPPAGE has helped Hyundai to such big UK gains that the maker intends to continue success.
The firm today thus launches TWO post-scrappage schemes – Trade & Upgrade and Happy Returns.
Trade & Upgrade is a generous scrappage-type scheme, that will give owners of cars aged between 7 and 10 years old the same £2000 discount gained from the Government scrappage scheme.
  • I thought that would be the case. Im hoping to get a vauxhall corsa or ford fiesta no more than a couple of years old. My car has only done 65000 miles but the body work isn't in the best shape someone crashed into me while i was parked two years ago. Its a great little runner but things are slowly starting to go and i've been told it will fail its MOT in April if it doesn't have work done. Does anyone know any companies which give good money on part exchanges?

My budget is around the £9,000 mark it doesn't have to be new just no more then a couple of years old.

    Thanks for all your help.

I would until the scrappage scheme is over and hopefully there will be a window of opportunity there.

In the meantime it might be worth sticking you car through an MOT and seeing what the costs are likely to be. You can stick it through a month before the due date.

Your car will probably be worth at least £500 if you can get it through an MOT and it is relatively presentable.

So the brand new Hyundhai offering £2k for your scrap car wouldnt be of interest? (separate to the scrappage deal)

If you can hang on then that would be best as once the scrappage deals dry up the dealers will be offering other incentives Id have thought.

There are some members on here who are motor people and Im sure they will have some wise advise for you :)
