Confused HNC Foundation Degree?

Hi, I hold a HNC in childhood studies from 2002. Im on maternity leave at the moment but returning to work in Sept P/T and was thinking of doing a foundation degree p/t too. My aim is to become a teacher.

My question is this- Will the foundation degree give me any more points than my HNC or I m I just doing the same course with a different title? Thanks.

An HNC is equivalent to the first year of a degree course with an HND equivalent to 2 years. A Foundation Degree is equivalent to approximately the first 2 years of a degree so there is a definite overlap.

Have you thought of topping up your HNC to a degree by studying with the Open University?

Ask the college where you got your HNC for an academic transcript so you can see and provide evidence of the credits you have been awarded. Most HNCs have both level 1 and level 2 credits (expressed in regular university year equivalent). My guess is you'll have about 120 to 160 credits. For example, my HNC had 156 credits consisting 108 level 1 and 48 level 2. Depending on where you go you can use these credits as approved prior learning but each college has their own policy on what they accept. It is very doubtful anyone will accept the credits awarded against Common Skills modules. Common Skills is just BTEC nonsense.
What I have described is the route I took and I eventually gained a degree.
