Nationwide have proved to me this week, that some of their workforce are of well below average intelligence. Nationwide is unlikely to rob my home, however any employee with access may easily pass the information to someone outside the company who could.

Which I really don't think is amusing at all.

Banking employees are proving the world over that they have just as many potential criminals within their ranks are any other workplace. I cite as an example the recent cases where foreign governments (including UK Gov) have purchased client information stolen from large Swiss Banks.

Nationwide have sent me a long letter of apology, but they have failed so far to answer the question I raised about the security of the data they want provided in return for the card to work.

I think that if you have such serious doubts then the best way to go is to hide all your money under the mattrace though...

Because seriously, Nationwide is one of the better banks (well, it's society but you know what I mean) and you won't find it much better elsewhere.

You seem to have a major problem here:

You want your bank to drop all of its security checks and so leave you both exposed to fraudulent use of your card and yet you refuse to furnish them with simple information that will ensure that you can use it without any problems abroad.

What about the airline employees who have access to your ticket information, or the neighbour down the road who sees you setting off to the airport with two suitcases under your arm?

Which is the greater problem to you - security against fraudulent use of your card or the absolute outside chance that someone at Nationwide might be on the make and just happen to know a burglar who operates in your area?
  • With this new policy Nationwide is engaged in protecting its own interests. I used to bank with Nationwide, but moved my money away because of poor management practices. I use them only as a source of travel money.

Sure they are crying for your business then... ;)

If you are so worried about the security and only use the card for travel money, why not ditch the card and use travellers cheques?
