I have been approached by a 'reputable' firm of solicitors to claim back my cardit cards balances and loan taken pre-2007 BUT want £50 up front for each claim - I have 10 cards in total, so £5000 to clear all my loans. What do you think?

10 cards @ £50 = £500
or is it 10 cards @ £500?
You can do this yourself, see:

Further to Orfords post, if they were a reputable firm, they wouldn't be asking ofr payment up front. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Spot on.
And seeing as the success rate on unenforceable loans and credit cards is really tiny , its daft to pay up front (most claims companies have not had any successes on that front and recent court cases that were seen as test cases have all found in favour of the lender) .I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Sorry but don't believe what you are told by the "reputable" firm.
Why pay up front? This site and others is littered with cases who have lost what little hard earned money they had chasing a "maybe".
It is almost impossible to claim this way. If you borrowed the money, more often than not, you owe the money and should pay it back.
There is nothing to stop you reclaiming credit card charges however, ie for late payment, missed DD, etc.:)Please ignore those people who post on this forum who deliberately try to misinform you. Don't be bullied by them, don't be blamed by them. You know who I mean.
You come here for advice, help and support- thats what I and like minded others will try to do.0
