But you wouldn't be saying that if you didn't already own would you ISTL?

    Absolutely I would.

It wasn't easy when I bought my first property, but I had a realisation that if I wanted to be a homeowner, I would have to make decision and cut my cloth in order to be one.

Do you still own a home ISTL, or are you back in rented now? I heard a rumour things weren't going too well?

I see you have only taken payments into account.

If the market crashes, which is did, and would without stimulus, hence the stimulus, there is also the problem of neg equity.

That's where I personally would be stuffed.

I guess it's down to how you define "stuffed".

In my opinion you would not be stuffed, you would maybe have more restrictions imposed on yourself but you would still have a roof over your head.
Whether you would be or not is neither here nor there, nor any of my business. A lot of the country however, would be stuffed.

Payments are just one part of being a home owner.

Then don't tar us all with your brush
You seem to forget all this time and time again. The "prudent" as you call them, including myself as a homeowner would have been completely stuffed if all that had not happened.

The reference to those being prudent was for those who became homeowners and my point is that the majority of homeowners would not have been "stuffed"

Hmmm, not sure where you got that from, I own three properties.
Two in the UK and one abroad.

Things are going extremely well to clarify. :T

If it is cheaper to rent in the long run, why would anyone in their right mind buy?

Because for the vast majority of people the decision to buy or rent is not a purely financial one.

Oh I must have misheard then. Someone was saying something on the Debt boards and it sounded a bit confessional, and I thought "oh I hope that isn't ISTL with a fake ID pouring out his heart". They claimed to be living in an Aberdeen crackhouse, but still keeping up appearances on the House Price board.

Must be someone else I guess.

    The housing bears want...

I love the idea of a designated sub-group of a main group that doesn't really exist anyway.

    We could also have:

    Coffee bulls.
    Cotton bears.
    Technology bulls.
    Sugar swans.
    Coal cats.
    Tea tigers.

That's good to hear. Since I turned agnostic I have become much more caring.

Out of interest I searched "crackhouse" and found nothing on the debt free board.
