Tesco Bank Maternity Policy

Hi, considering applying for a position with tesco bank but am also wanting to try for a baby soon and am wondering what the maternity policy is like. At my current job it's 6 months full pay then 3 months smp which is really good and they are really good with flexible working. Wondered if it was worth going through the application stuff.

6 months full pay?!?!? Who gives that?????? I can't imagine many companies would could even come close to that.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Your current job is pretty generous when it comes to 6mths full pay. My employer is also in the banking sector and they pay 6mths full and 6 mths half for maternity. My fiancee also gets 6mths full and 6mths half pay for maternity. Most companies will simply pay the legal minimum though.
I've no idea about Tesco bank, I didn't know they were off the ground yet. Either they will fall in line with the industry and offer 6mth full and then 6mths half, or they will be no frills and offer the legal min. If it's a call centre role you are looking at I would expect it to be legal min due to the high expected turnover of staff.

Also I wouldn't bring it up at interview, but I would review the contract if and when you get that far before you resign from your present job to see what it says. That is unless you can find information about it on their website or ask someone else who works there but isn't going to tell HR. Although it's illegal, it's still likely to impact on them taking you on. There may also be a qualifying period for you to get the benefits, so as a new starter if you plan on having a baby soon eg less than a year, you may not get the extra benefits if there are any.

Hi thanks for your help and advice. Def wouldn't ask about it at interview but that's a good idea to look at the HR policy before resigning. Fingers crossed it's similar to Tesco supermarkets policy and someone can advise on that.0

You might not get maternity pay info in the contract offer. When I changed jobs nearly 2 years ago, I had 2 offers, and neither of them had any info on maternity/paternity pay. It was not a banking job, but I am just trying to say, that it is not guaranteed that you will find out about maternity pay from the offer/contract.
And it is not easy to ask HR about this without raising suspicions... So, I still don't know what is the company policy in my case, even though we have been trying for a baby for 2.5 years.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
ginvt - isn't there any information about the company maternity/paternity policy in your employee handbook?0

6 month full pay is about standard...well it has been most places I have worked...1 place was even 9 full 3 half...and of course if you are the father you get 2 weeks if you are lucky!0

Is 6 months full pay standard??
We only get 14 weeks full pay and SMP until 39 weeks, but get an additional 4 weeks full pay when you return to work.0 -
I get the bog standard SMP, so 6 weeks at 90%, then £123 a week for the remainer of the 9 months. It's quite a large company too!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

Almost every company I have worked for it has been 6 months not that it matter to me being a guy but maybe its just been luck with the companies I have worked for so far!0
