Makenzie hall.....

I know they have been mentioned before i just want to try to be specific and clear

2001 approx credit card/ bank debt run up barclay card.....

a few years later i accept the debt with a company called aktiv capital, paying it off however much per month,

about a year ago I get it all paid off, pretty sure they confirmed that.

now im not saying this is deffo related but ( considering whats said about mh and old debt)

first

a letter from makenzie hall about an urgent matter

then a text of similar

both with a ref number ( put the ref number in their website and it says call them for a pin number and it seems clear not to call them)

now today a voice mail message

I believe they have to prove whatever to me...

Also now I have finished with aktiv should i stay well clear or should i get a copy of the letter that states ive paid? just wondering if thats some sort of admitance

On the letter MH sent you did it give any reference number etc that means you can identify it as the same debt you paid off to activ?

Do you have any other old unpaid debts?

If they chase you for a debt but you don't know for certain what it is send the prove it letter (which includes a sentance about not acknowledging the debt). Then if they come back with info that it is the same debt send the proof activ gave you that the debt was cleared

  • thanks for the prompt replies

they have just called my old family home, they spoke to my dad who said I was no longer there

they asked if he was in contact with me he said 'possibly' so they gave him their number to pass on

im pretty sure there are no old debts, ill have to see if i can dig out the letter from aktiv

is sending the 'prove it' letter in any way aknowledging a debt when thus far they have not mentioned anything....?

can I add ill tear their heads off if they call my parents agsin?

Well Mackenzie hall are known to be debt collectors - you could amend the letter slightly to say something like

'you have asked me to contact you about an urgent matter - if this relates to an alleged debt which you claim is owed by me. I would point out that I have no knowledge of any debt being owed to Mackenzie Hall.

    Or something similar.

  • thanks thats great, I believe they dont have the same power as baliffs and I should also write saying that they have to make an appointment in writing if they want to send anyone round

is there anything similar regarding phone calls? i dont want my parents harrasing

im curious to know how they could be chasing an aktiv deb that is paid...

Hi again - these are the letters to which you refer

To be honest some DCAs don't have a clue what they are doing. So they could be chasing you for a settled debt. Or they could be chasing your for another Mr Andrew Pickup's debt, or Andrea Pickup's debt or Andrew Pickle's debt (if you see what I mean) best way is to try to get something definite out of them so you can then decide best how to tackle it.

Do you recall if you paid off activ in its entirety or if you negotiated to pay less to settle the debt?

  • no i deffo paid aktiv off fully. so send an ammended proof letter to see what they want and hopefully that will stop calls.

i think im best not putting my address on there they can get it from records

    Hi Skint and welcome

Here is a link to the snowball calculator and the statement of affairs calculator (both are useful for debt busting) -
    http://www.makesenseofcards.com/snowcalc.html
    http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

The snowball helps you work out the order in which to target your debts and shows you how much you will pay/save in interest by doing this. It will also give you an estimated debt free date.

If you complete the SoA calc first the data will feed through into the snowball so that you do't need to enter it twice.
