Hi all,
I have had night storage heaters for two years, in that time I accumulated a large amount of debt with EDF as my ex partner was hiding the fact he wasn't paying the bills. I now owe them £800 and pay them £120 a month. A month ago I had central heating installed and my electricity usage has gone down. I called EDF to see if they could decrease the DD a little as I will need to pay for the gas. EDF have refused to lower the DD, now I am not sure how I will pay the gas bill. Are EDF in the right or can I persade them to lower it?

I think it unlikely that they will lower the payment when you owe so much.
but looking on the bright side now you are using less electricity you will pay it off quicker and also you need to get off e7,find out what their cheapest tariff is and go on that.0 -
What is the split of the £120 between fuel and debt?
As you have had GSH installed have you changed from an E7 tariff to a standard tariff as E7 will probably no longer be suitable?
Phone them with meter readings every month so they can see you consumption has changed.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

If you get your Gas from EDF can you not get them to join the accounts up somehow? If they hold both accounts and can see you arre paying enough to cover gas and electric useage and be paying towwards the debt it shouldn't be an issue that they are taking payment for 'electricity' but need to put it towards both fuels.
If your Gas isn;t from EDF energy (why not?) you will have a problem0 -
Thanks for the replies, yes I have moved from e7 and the usage has gone down a lot. The gas is with British gas as the heating was installed by warm front/land lord. I think I will try and keep paying the £120 for a few months and see how the debt is decreasing then go from there.0

Provide them with regular (at least monthly) meter readings and ask them to reduce it each time you call, as they can see your usage is significantly lower and the debt is being paid off more quickly they may well agree.0
