    Rat Packs are OK (I was also in the ATC) but unless they're different now they do have quite a lot of tins in. The tinned bacon was lovely though.

    They are now mostly boil in the bag things, sort of foil bags. No tins. The bit that often weighs the most if the hexie stove. Last time I ate them (a few years back) they were lovelly. But when you are outdoors cold and hungry any food tasts great!!!! As I once found out with some instant pasta snak type thing. Lovelly outdoors but when I tried it at home it was bloody awful.

    The Rat packs I used were pretty heavy. I can't remember exactly what was in them but there was a Hexi burner, which are good and light but messy. Then there was always tinned bacon which was delicious and for soem reason a tin of Christmas Pudding. There were usually Spangles sweets as well, even though they'd stopped selling them in shops years before.

    One other point is to take LOTS of food. Doing 13 miles a day carrying a large pack is going to use lot of energy.

  • lidl do some sachets of pasta and sauce and flavoured rice that are pretty good, just add hot water and cook for 5 mins. the cheese pasta is good!
  • Instant mash and lots of nuts would get my vote! Also some mars bar type things and definitely some sachets of hot chocolate.

    I hope your DD has a fab weekend!

    Hi

    You could buy a product called Mugshots (apologies if this has already been suggested)

    It is a dry pasta with dried sauce which is cooked (as such) in a mug with just boiling hot water, done in 5 minutes and very tasty, various flavours, tomato and herb, chicken and mushroom etc,

    I buy them from Asda and you will find them in the packet soup section, don't know wher you would find them in any other supermarket.

    Also, if she likes them, some tins of sardines, very healthy and not too heavy.

    Hope that helps

  • DD1 completed silver this year. Food was a bit of a problem however we came up with:
    tuna salad in ring pull containers (very light tin) cold but contained pasta, veg and tuna (think they were John West but Supermarkets may have own brands;
    Sainsbury's did some plastic pots with pasta plus sauce that you added hot water to (Asda/tesco may do similar)- lightweight and she said they were edible;
    cereal bars;
    sachets of hot chocolate;
    cup-o-soups;
    apples and some chocolate bars.
    Dd1 was only away for the weekend (Fri until Sun) so I didn't worry too much about her diet as long as she felt reasonably full and full of energy.
