I left at 16 and dropped back for a couple of months when 18 or so but I didn't give them anything. I guess I would if I had gone back later in life but really maybe chucking them £50 for food a week would be more than enough. There are no other bills, just food and if they actually cook rather than microwave, feeding 4 does not cost twice feeding two. Perhaps 50% more.

OK, I am going to be honest and apologise for that in advance but:

Obviously that's your Mum and your joint decision - but I could never imagine taking any money from my parents for them living with me. I didn't pay anything to them for housing, feeding, clothing and educating me from the age of 0-21 years and can ever pay this money back.

I don't know, I just felt sad after your post.

I'm not sure why you felt sad, if you makes you feel better my mum had some fantastic holidays/cruises when she lived with me things she could never had afforded when running her own home.

As I said I did hated taking a penny but you get realistic when housing your parent(s) for free means not being able to paying the bills / mortgage.

We moved in with my inlaws last May and are staying until October this year.

We pay £650 inc food but we still buy odd bits now and then

    Hope this helps
