I did a couple of months in America with BUNAC (http://www.bunac.org/) through their Work America programme. It's for the summer and you can do any job you can find so it can be as interesting or as boring as you want it to be. A couple of my friends worked in theme parks or national parks. I did the waitressing bit (which is great as if you're good, you can earn a lot plus you get fed if you do double shifts, bonus!!)
A quick search in google brought up
http://www.realgap.co.uk/
http://www.ccusa.com/ (I know a few people who have done this, not a bad programme)0 -
if you're interested in working on summer camps there are a few major players:
www.campleaders.com (cheapest)
www.ccusa.com
www.campamerica.com (corporate giants, grrr)
www.bunac.com
I've now spent 5 summers working in the US, so if you've any specific questions, feel free to ask!!!0
