Router/Wifi - How Many Connections Do You Have

I was shocked last night when l realised exactly what we have connected via our router

I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus Mimo Router have VM Broadband package L (10MB) and have the following items accessing the WiFi

x 2 Desk Tops
x 2 Laptops
x 2 Nokia E63's
x 1 Wii
x 1 HP Wifi Printer
x 1 Dual Phone (Skype)

I have the 2 desk tops and the Dual Phone pluged directly into the router, the others are via Wifi.

To think l have the cheek to moan when things seems to be running slow at times :D

Well, in my one bedroom flat shared by two people we have

    2x Laptops
    1x Desktop
    1x X-Box (connected via ethernet)
    1x Nintendo Wii
    1x Blackberry

Bit shocking to think about it

I think theoretically the maximum number of devices would be 255, but in practice the router would fall over a die a lot before that just trying to manage connections.

I'd say a home router could handle about a dozen at maximum, but obviously if all the devices are trying to connect to the same internet connection it's going to be slow, since the bandwidth will be divvied up between them (and in practice, most home routers don't do this very well, if one user does something that initiates a lot of connections and high usage, such as torrenting, they are likely to get good download speeds on their torrent but everyone else will slow to a crawl).

Just make sure all those connections are yours - and not someone hijacking your wireless :D
