WINDSCREEN REPLACEMENT - Car insurance

My father-in-law has just changed car insurance companies on 1st March.
He has just had his car MOT'd and has found that he has a crack in his windscreen - covered under his new insurance policy.
He inadvertently admitted to his new insurance company that the crack has been there for some time, but has been getting worse. They refused to pay for the repair/replacement as they claim it is an old defect and have advised that he calls his previous insurers.
Not surprisingly, his old insurers have refused to help!!!
He is now facing a £400 replacement bill.
Any ideas?

Don't now the reason why the previous insures have denied the claim but he now has 14 days to cancel this new policy and start another some where else.0
-
Doh! The problem may well now be that since he has tried to claim, it will be on file, so any attempt to go for another policy somewhere else may still not allow him to get a new windscreen.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

Shop around, I contacted 2 major companies and quoted £300+
A quick 'goggle' came up with a few smaller ones and got a quote for £100
for my Escort van.
May be a bit far for you but www.expresswindscreenservices.co.uk

Has it failed the mot for the crack?
I had a few quotes for a windscreen from local garages recently, not autoglass etc, they were about half the price on average.0 -
Steer clear of the big names and find a small independent. If near Glasgow I can give the name of one.0
-
If the crack is small he could get it repaired for about £40 at one of those guys that hang around shopping ctr carparks0

A "Repaired" crack wont pass the MOT if its more than 10mm, so watse of money. Repairs dont make the crack disappear.0

Like ScottishSapper suggested shop around the small independents they usually charge around £100-150. Don't forget if it did go through the insurance there is usually a £75 excess to pay.0
