Thanks very much for that reply, Tim.

    Very interesting read.

I have contacted Consumer Direct who say they will be contacting Trading Standards regarding this issue - I was told that the least I should expect should be either a replacement or a refund.....all I want is a decent night's kip! lol

Hopefully this will get sorted out without the need for legal action.

    Thanks again

I'd go for the refund if you can get one.

Good to hear that you are on the path of complaining about your mattress. It seems to be a very difficult situation with mattresses, because the process of proving 'faults' can be quite complicated. A sag might be viewed as normal and not a design fault.

For example I bought a top of the range mattress from an independant bed specialist, and I have to turn it almost weekly because two people fall into the middle after a few days (the mattress is about a year old). Any complaint would be met with them saying that I can choose another mattress from them, but why would I want to when the original product is sub-standard, in my opinion. I'm getting so fed up that I will probably chuck the whole thing and waste £600.

I wish you better luck with your complaint.

What was the make and model of your mattress?

The fact that they are offering to exchange the mattress sounds like they are accepting that it may be faulty.

Just because the mattress you have is faulty doesn't mean that their whole range is sub standard. So you shouldn't just dismiss their offer. As you will see from this and many other threads on MSE, some retailers (especially the big ones) send an engineer who is chosen and paid for by them. And guess what........most of the time they say there is no fault. So the fact that they are more or less aditting that there may be a fault is a good thing.
  • Hi

I know this thread is from a long time ago, but did you ever get it sorted out?

I've got exactly the same issue with a mattress I purchased from Benson Beds in June 2010, we're rotating the mattress every month or so but there are two indentations where we both sleep - with a ridge in the middle!

I complained to Benson Beds last week and have had a response today saying it's perfectly normal and to be expected from a new mattress - surely that can't be the case?

The mattress is so uncomfortable now that I often wake with a back ache, and it cost me £1000 so as you can imagine I'm not happy at all!

So, I just wondered if you managed to resolve your problem with them or if you've just accepted their comments?

    many thanks

What is the make and model of your mattress, and what exactly is the problem with it?
