    Why not..?

Its agreed that some estate agents do a lot of chasing/setting up chains but i expect Tesco et al could employ people to do the same.

In fact they could employ EA clerks on a salary rather than being commission driven hyenas.

I suspect that people trust Tesco more than they do the average EA
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

So it can be a monopoly by one company instead of thousands competing for business? :) (good for tesco maybe the only people it would be good for)

I think a giant EA would be so much worse when did the last time a monopoly on a market became a good thing?

But surely EAs have a virtual monopoly via their major organ aka Rightmove which doesnt allow private ads? Not to mention EAs rather restrictive contracts.

The last time i discussed the intracacies of sole agency contracts and similar, the wench took a snooty look at me and said.."who told you about that?" as if i am simple or something. I showed her the door.

How will they pay the salaries without charging a commission on the sale? If they do charge a commission, what's different about them compared to a current EA? Does this make Tesco a big commission-driven hyena?

Considering tesco get you to scan your own shopping now I do worry why you think they would offer a good experience on selling such an high value item.

Perhaps you want to buy cars off them also.
But there are portals to sell homes on line if you want to sell yourself.

But if they are not as good as RM perhaps you need to ask why. Most probably because the fees and the maintenance do not cover the advertising and staff costs to make it bigger.

It does worry me that so many peoples answer to a better world is TESCO. (ask farmers if the size of tesco is a good thing for long term viability)

I think the OP just wants to temporarily withdraw his property from the market without risking fees/penalties, not revolutionise the UK property market process!

tesco will make no difference at all to the property market, none. on any reasoning. people have far more respect for their personal affairs and poperty to let a supermarket anywhere near them...well most people who have class anyway.
My posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:

My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o

Considering that the thread started with dissatisfaction with a national chain - presumably one which has an arm which does conveyancing and an in house 'mortgage advisor', I don't think this would be a move in the right direction.

As for trusting Tesco more than the average EA, you might be damning them with faint praise.

I'm thinking that a lot of the problems with the modern world is that there are too many large orgaisations which have too much market share and have done too much 'business process re-engineering' - usually piling a load of bullying and discomfort on customers who are left with very little alternative.
