Car Scrapping Problem

Hi I have a problem, not sure really what to do next. For the last few months some scrappage company have been going round to my mums asking if they can scrap my old vitara that has been cluttering up their drive for the last year. I kept saying maybe but eventually a couple of weeks ago I agreed to let them take it once they had signed the log book to say they were scrapping it and gave me notice to scrap. My mum misunderstood and let them take it that day and they told her they would be back the next day for the log book and to give me the scrappage notice. Problem is they didn't come back the next day or any day since and I can't find a company under the name they gave my mum. WHAT DO I DO. I'm not fussed about the car but legally I am still responsible for it. can I still tell the DVLA that it has been scrapped and also what about the tax stuff.

Do not tell them it has been scrapped. Write to them explaining what has happened.0

Can you not report it as stolen? It sounds like that is pretty much what they have done.0

Sounds like Gypsy's/travellers to me. I would report stolen immediately in case the vehicle turns up dumped somewhere and you're expected to pay some sort of recovery fee.0

its ok, mum to the rescue, it looks like it was gypsy's but they sold it to a local scrappage yard who scrapped it a couple of weeks ago. They are happy to give my the certificate of distruction. My mum was so worried that she had done something wrong she drove round the scrappage yards to see if any had my car aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh mums eh gotta love them, thanks for all your replies though.0

And just think if *they* came to get it you'd have the money that's now in the Gypo's wallet  Also I'd have thought they'd need proof of ownership/registered keeper to scrap a vehicle. Otherwise I am sure more errant partners would drive their ex's BMW/Merc to the scrappy :rotfl: as opposed to spray painting "cheating b*****d" and other choice phrases. Actually I suppose the last one is probably more fun.0

might give my mum some ideas since my dad left her for another women last week, also they said they gave him 90 quid a ton but I'm not too fussed just glad its not been fly tipped. The scrapper said they don't always get v5s with it but they keep a list to send to the dvla of stuff they have scrapped which is how they knew they had done my car0

Probably pleased to get V5 that allows them to properly report the vehicle as scrapped.;)0
