no claims on house insurance

This maybe a silly question but it's the first time I've had insurance & I'm just at the end of my first year so bear with me.

My renewal quote came through with a 10% discount for a years no cliams bonus, the quote was still a silly price so I've changed to someone else can I transfer that no claims bonus like you can with car insurance?

There doesn't seem to be an option on direct lines website to tell them if I've claimed in the last year or not?

Cheers,
Steve.

Unlike motor insurance there isnt really an established "no claims discount" process for home. Some insurers have started to introduce them but they are rather patchy - I dont know if DL does or doesnt have any no claims on their home offering

    Cheers,
    Steve.

Are you sure? All the companies I've had quotes off have asked about claim history. It's my understanding that they calculate your premium using this information, so it should be cheaper if you haven't made any claims.

I get 'NCD' with my provider (Halifax) but I'm pretty sure it's just their in-house way of making it look like they're rewarding claim free policies. Like mentioned above, I don't think it's like car insurance where it can be applied to other policies.

Your premiums would be influenced by your claims history in respect of your home insurance quotes however the "NCD" only applies to your policy with that insurer - a little tempter to stay with them rather than switching. Not always the best decision to take.

some companies will offer NCD but you usually have to be claim free for 5 years
