Carpet cleaning please

A few months ago, when she was unwell, my dog weed on the living room carpet - there were 2 patches. I cleaned it up fairly well immediately and then within a couple of weeks gave it what I thought was a pretty thorough Vax-ing. In fact I took the opportunity to do the whole carpet, as well as the stairs! However, the stains are really noticeable again now. I can vax it again but I wonder if the main problem is that it's in a main thoroughfare, the living room is the only way through to the stairs and we can't avoid walking on that bit. I'll make doubly sure this time that it's dry before we walk on it, though it will mean jumping over it every time we go upstairs, and maybe protect it with some towels to ensure it's dry but otherwise not sure what I can do. Has anyone any idea why this might have happened and how I can avoid the stains reappearing again?
And no, she hasn't weed again!! Thanks
DS

Whenever our cats have the occasional "accident" with vomit, wee or poo, we use a special cleaner - Simple Solutions Stain & Odor Remover. It's supposed to neutralise the stain and certainly works well on our carpets. Sometimes you need to go over the mark a couple of times if it's particularly bad, but we've never been left with any permanent staining.0
