Casio Watch Straps always breaking?

Great watches, cheap and the batteries last forever, but has anyone found that the "Lugs" that hold the watch strap are always breaking, rendering them useless, no i dont give them "Rough" treatment, just normal use.
the last one lasted just 6 months. Or is it just me, no i dont mean the "Resin" ones, the "Metal" ones are actually plastic. Now got 4 in the draw that i cant use. of couse the "Guarentee" dosent cover the "Body" or Strap.

Surely the straps and the lugs can be replaced??

  • why don't you just take them to a repair shop? alot of jewellers do it and there are loads of watchmakers around,
the lugs are designed (at least in the more expensive watches) to ''break'' i know this sounds daft but please read on,
if a watch gets caught etc, these are designed to go first as it is much more economical to repair, if the lug didnt break then the strap would resulting in a much more costly repair.

it really is simple to even repair yourself with the right tool,

then you just need the correct size spring lug and off you go.

it really doesnt render the watch useless at all

(i used to work in a jewellers and regularly repaired watches.)

Its not the "spring Bar" that breaks, its the actual "Lug" which the spring bar fits in that breaks, rendering the watch unwearable. Thanks anyway.

Some pictures may help - but any watch that breaks in the way you have described isn't fit for purpose. I've never had a watch break like that.

ah i see what you mean now,

the manufacturers guarantee does indeed only cover the mechanism of the watch, but i believe you should still be covered under soga for the whole watch (if you know what i mean?) it's not reasonable to expect a watch to only last a few months, and i would be inclined to say that its not fit for purpose. in that instance, instead of going to the manufacturer i would return the watch to the shop purchased. if the watch is over 6 months old you would have to get an expert opinion to say that there is a flaw with the watch (if this is the case then i think the retailer is liable for the cost of the expert opinion but dont quote me on that!)
the only problem with the above is that if it is only cheap it's probably more hassle than its worth ....

Update-Argos offered a complete refund/exchange, but they didn't have to, apparently straps or the watch body are not covered, although you can buy insurance for £3.99 that covers for 2 years. Well done Argos.

they are right that its not covered, but only under the manufacturers guarantee,(ever heard the saying, this does not affect your statutory rights?) but it still has to be fit for purpose under soga, :D

glad they changed it without fuss
