Unable to cash cheque

My other half took out some shares using his preferred name instead of name he was christened with a few years ago. Since this time he has opened a bank and business account with myself using his official name, has since decided to cash in his shares and received a cheque in is old name and does not have any legal documents of the same name to show the bank so he can cash the cheque, which is incidently a thousand pounds, any advice please????:(

  • Hi,

when you say preferred name, do you mean, John Smith instead of Johnathon Smith?

I think you will need to get a new cheque issued in real name, might be difficult convincing stockbroker or selling agent though.
