under counter fridge integrated but not integrated

Hi

I am currently installing a new kitchen and I intend to have a side by side under counter fridge and a freezer. If I buy integrated this will cost at least £200 each plus the doors which are aprox £30 each. I was planning to use ordinary white (cheap) fridge and freezer and have slightly deeper worktops so that they dont stick out. I was then going to have unit door over the front of each appliance giving the appearance of a fully fitted kitchen. I know this will mean that I have to open the cupboard doors before I can open the fridge but I am happy to do that. The problem I have is that a standard fridge or freezer door would open much closer to the ground than an integrated one and the plinth would be in the way. I was wondering if anyone has done something similar to this and would be able to suggest a way of overcoming this.

Many thanks

Rob

buy the integrated ones thats why they cost more because they work properly..otherwise you will have to hinge the plinth/kickboard and also you wont be able to get into the fridge properly as it wont open fully..
or just leave it as it is and then you wont have to keep rememebring where your fridge is

doing a DIY/Bodge job will ruin the look of your kitchen...

    Hi OddjobKIA

Thanks for the super fast reply I know you are right in what you say I just hoped there may be a solution I guess I will have to find the extra money or leave the fridge/freezer visible.

You'd have to attach the plinth to the door to make it look like a regular kickplate when closed. Not sure how good the lines of the kitchen would look with a broken run of plinth.

I've thought about doing that as well as was thinking about giving it a go on our next project with the washing machine. Not the fridge though.

  • you can do it with a washing machine. not a fridge though

    Hi

Thanks for your replies Doozergirl and Steve the fitter

I had considered doing this with the washing machine unfortunatly where the plumbing and wastes are located there is not enough space to have a deeper worktop.
