Check the buy/sell sections of local papers.

I'm guessing you want something small like a Fiesta, Corsa or Polo or am I completely wrong?
  • Auto Trader website.

Set limits to max price £1000. Set distance to say 10 miles from your post code and see what is available. Then go and look at a few cars.

Or local paper/gumtree etc as above.

Should be hundreds of the old shape corsas, fiesta, ka's etc. Even for £1000, you should find one in decent condition - just allow £200 or so for repairs. I'd try and buy from a trader rather than private, so if it does turn out to be unsafe you at least have some comeback.

At that price, condition is more important than make/model.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
