I have a couple of times actually, which is why I have a visa card at all. First time in a restaurant, nearly very embarrassing as at that point we only had mastercard which they didn't take, we only just had enough cash so couldn't leave a tip. Sods law that would happen when we didn't have a debit card on us to get any more cash out. Also allofmp3.com only take visa!lisyloo wrote:Well I can assure you it does.
I would advise having 2 cards.
I usually take a mastercard and a VISA (and a debit card), although I don't think I've ever found anywhere that doesn't take both.
I don't take any more than that because there are risks of pick pockets etc. so it is a trade off.0 -
Eager for my gf not to copy my mistakes I have advised her not to open any credit card accounts, and she has followed my advice. Therefore she only has a Debit card on her current account, I agree it would be worth opening a separate account also with a debit card, and this is what she intends to do so she has a back up in future.0

Only tiny compared to yours, but asda online have done this with me this week. They've "reserved" £54 for a £27 shop, and still haven't released it 2 days later. I've rung AGAIN to get them to sort it out, and the dim woman said "i'll ring accounts to get them to remove it" - so it isn't done automatically, it depends on one of the staff there getting off their !!! and doing it.

The above is currently happening to myself.
I bought 2 New york flights i purchased them through Delta airlines direct but i priced them up with expedia.
On my account there is currently about £400 on "reserve" the bank wont tell me who is reserving it.
I beleive it to be expedia but it may well be Delta airlines.
I am just a bit paranoid that nearly £400 is either going missing from my account or the tickets have been put throught twice !!0 -
Had a friend who worked in the Hotel trade When someone booked a room he often reserved a large amount of money in case of extras which would be charged to the room. Meals drinks etc. He said it was up to them to release this amount and it would often take a week or more for this to be done. Basically they only did it when they could be bothered to phone the CC company. We all evolve - get on with it0
