PremierInn/Travel Lodge recomendation please

My DH has a week off at Easter and we have just ordered Merlin passes with out Tesco Vouchers:j

we would love to find a reasonable hotel for a couple of days near Legoland and Chessington for the Tuesday/Wednesday night after Easter weekend but am a but have heard some horror stories. (trip advisor does not help the matter!) I booked a family room at Ascot with De Vere hotels for £39 but cancelled as it sounded awful.

Any ideas anyone? Just want a clean safe room somewhere with a pub attached preferably, that is not like a prison cell with drunks and ladies of the night hanging around in the evening!!!

Spend the extra and get a Premier Inn rather than a Travelodge if you can. Travelodges really are the bottom of the food chain situated mostly on busy dual carriageways with only a Burger King or Little Chef next to them.

The worst Travelodge I ever stayed in was Cardiff Central. Directly above a night club and was kept awake by the sound of them emptying bins of empty bottles into the big wheely bins directly below my window til 5am.

I don't know what your budget is but the Innkeepers Lodge at Old Windsor is ok. (2.8 miles from Legoland Windsor)

    or

The Copthorne at Slough gets good reviews and is cheaper.

  • Just had a look but its full. Tried Slough and it is £125 for 2 nights. Don`t think DH would be happy with that LOl.
  • If you're not bothered about staying at a "chain" hotel try looking on http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/

Some of the best hotels I've ever stayed at have been small family run affairs I've found on there.

[edit] I should point out that THE worst hotel I ever stayed at was found on there too!

We stayed a night at the Devere Hotel at Ascot in August and it was nice there. It is about 20 minutes drive from legoland. We paid £10 for a family room and when we arrived they had upgraded us to 2 interconnecting double rooms at no extra cost. They were big rooms and very clean. They were not in the manor house shown on the site, but in a series of 2 storey motel type looking blocks. It had nice grounds and an outdoor heated pool available Monday -Friday. It was not near much, but if you walked out of the entrance near the pool there was a small parade of shops with a supermarket, fish and chip shop and a pub at the bottom of the road. The breakfast was a buffet one which was filling and cost £7.50 per adult (they did not charge us for the children)-lots of choice of cooked breakfast items, juices, tea and coffee served at the table, cereals, porridge, pastries, toast etc. I was not keen on the bacon as they did it on some sort of indoor bbq type unit, but apart from that the rest was nice. Certainly better than Travelodges and Premier inns we have stayed in.

If you don't mind a bit more of a travel journey( about 30 mins) the 4 star madjeska hotel in Reading has £10 a night rooms throughout the year (although most weekends gone now).We stayed there last week, booked one room in my name and card and one in hubbys and then emailed them to ask for 2 interconnecting rooms. They just had to change 1 room from a double to a twin to do this. Nice hotel with a pool and sauna. Breakfast £12.50 each. Food not cheap, but we found a Toby Inn carvery about 10 minutes away who did meals for £5 before 7pm.

Leatherhead Travelodge is only 3 miles from Chessington and seems to be a fairly new hotel.

You could also try the Holiday Inn travelodge 2for1 nights link as the one at Chessington, Leatherhead is £49.50 for the nigts you want.

We stayed at the Novotel at Heathrow when we went to Legoland. I think we paid £49 for B&B for the 4 of us. Normal breakfasts there cost £14 EACH:eek:. There was a tiny gym and a heated indoor swimming pool which the kids really enjoyed. Parking was free as long as you got your ticket stamped by reception. There are often deals for it in the Times on Saturdays.
  • I live in slough, and i have stayed in 4 travelodges this year and i dont think there as bad as what people think!I have 4 children17,13,7 and 4 and it was perfect if it was too fancey i'd be worrying every 2seconds about them breaking somthing:eek:!the travelodge in slough and windsor both have over night car parking charges of £16:eek::eek::eek:which will you could do without paying for(more money you can spend on eating out;)!)so i think the travelodge in Bracknell is the best,it has free parking and is about 15mins in the car..max.,but i must warn you windsor is expensive, slough is a lot cheaper to eat out they have nandoes,so asia, lebaneese, turkish, indian and if you go to a shop called 'marawar'at the bottom end of slough high st they do 12" pizzas with 3 topping 2 for £5:T!!!lots of diffrent types of food:D
if you stay in the bracknell travelodge(which is cheaper than slough or windsor travelodge+free parking)your close to chessington so with your merlin passes you can do both of them in 1 trip:j

but if you just wat to go for a nice walk you have windsor by the river they have boat rides(not too expensive depending what time of year you go)feed the swans, virginia waters (a long walk round a beautiful lake..pay for parking quite dear?)or windsor great park...oh and of course you have windsor castle too
    good luck:T

Not sure what horror stories you have heard but De Vere at Ascot is excellent value and I will be there again in a couple of weeks. Last time we were there lots of other MSE'ers were there at the same time.

Only paid £19 for two rooms with a connecting door. Free coffee and tea machines in the main building. Problems with our bar food last time, but the accomodation is great. Very clean and modern in the rooms as it is normally a training conference venue for businesses.

Travellodge Utoxeter (Alton Towers). Lots of people slate this place, but for the time we will be there and at only £10 a night, you cannot beat it. It will allow us to do Alton Towers for 4 days this year. (booked so far)

Covent Garden Travel Lodge - Again £19 per night. Another one that gets bad reviews from some people and the thumbs up from others. The room was spacious, great location for walking and easy parking in the multi-story car park next door.

    It depends what you want.

Premier Inn slough was great when we stayed there last when we visited legoland year air conditioned room, great friendly and helpful staff, no charges for parking, good tv with freeview channels and only about 15minutes from Legoland.

We stayed at Sunbury M4 travelodge when we went to chessington last year and its was about a 15 min drive from there. I think its about half hour to legoland (thorpe park was 15 mins away also). We paid £9 a night for 2 nights there and it was basic but clean. It is a newer travelodge and parking was £4 overnight.
