Keep the paper driving licence
I have just got a reminder that my driving licence needs renewed, because i now have the photo licence this needs renewed every ten years!!!! just want to moan but what a rip off, so if you have the old style paper licence keep it as you never need to renew it, so you can safely drive for many years and it wont cost you anything but those of us who have the card will pay £20 every 10 years to renew.. I thought I was reading things incorrectly so even went onto the DVLA website just to check it wasn't some sort of scam going around! and it can effect your insurance or you may get a fine if you do not renew.

Just watch out that they give you your new licence with all your entitlements on it. Wouldn't be the first time someone handed in their licence, and lost their HGV or M'Cycle entitlement when it came back. Seem to recall you can email or call them and ask for proof of your entitlements before you send it backFight Crime : Shoot Back.

You do have to, and it keeps those without licences off the roads by assisting police with IDing the driver...well helps, a little, hopefully.0 -
If your photo licence didn't get changed, it would look silly if you reached age 70 and your licence still showed you at 17.
As for paper, not everyone lives at the same address all their lives (ok, since 1999 in this case) so any paper licence holder changing address will need a licence change. If you are at the same address and nothing else has changed, be grateful that the DVLA allow you the privilege of keeping your paper one if you want to. Other countries' licensing authorities don't offer this option.0
