Double Checking an Ethernet Modem Purchase

Hello.

I would be grateful if someone could just confirm this for me. I bought a Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Router today but forgot to confirm whether or not it came with a modem. I now find myself in need of an ethernet modem, and after doing some research, have decided to buy the Linksys ADSL2MUE Ethernet Modem.

I would be grateful if someone could confirm that this will in fact work with my modem, on both my current 1mbps line and my forthcoming 8mbps one?

Also, does anyone know of a supplier that can send this item first class instead of via the really expensive Saturday Delivery couriers? I was using froogle for my search.

Thanks.

Cheers and take care.

Hussein.

Yes, they are compatible. Have you thought about buying a combined ADSL modem wireless router instead? It's cheaper in total than 2 separate boxes, there are less cables and it's impossible for the 2 devices (modem and router) not to work together first time.

Try Googling for the models to see different online suppliers.

Hello. Thanks for that, but I choose the WRT54GL specifically due to the operating system on board the router (Linux). There is also a whole community out there who has been working on reprogramming the router, adding more functionallity, etc. By flashing the router with new firmware, I can get more features out of it, I can add VoIP functionallity to this router that wasn't there when it left the factory, the same for VPN, I can add onboard FTP and so on. This would probably save me lots of money in the long run as I no longer need to buy a dedicated VoIP enabled router, I have expandability for the future, and not to mention the new firmware makes this router more powerful in the long run. I thought of just getting a replacement Belkin then selling the one that I get from them as a replacement to mine that died two days ago, but I now don't like Belkin as their functionallity is awful and there's no upgrade option.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll probably just end up phoning the suppliers up to see if I can negotiate first class delivery. After all, it's just a modem and weighs less than 2kg (£7.50 with royal mail) so paying £15+ for Saturday delivery is ridiculous.

    Cheers and take care.
