41p a unit! That is madness. Electric is sold for ~10p so that is a 300% loss. Where is the sense in that? This is as stupid as bankers lending to sub-primes. In the end it will be the rest of us that pays the price.

    Spot on:

    Who pays for the FITs?

Although the FITs are established in law, the money doesn't come from the Government, but from the energy market
Who pays my tariffs to me?

    Money.jpg

The Feed-in Tariffs are actually paid by the energy suppliers.
Tariff recipients can however appoint an agent to collect the tariffs on their behalf.
Where does the money come from?

It comes out of the pockets of the supply companies because they are really nice guys!

No seriously... The suppliers pass on the cost of the Tariffs scheme to all their electricity customers.
... so the bottom line is that people who don't install renewable energy generation pay for those who do!

Might that be unfair on the electricity supply companies?

The scheme includes a fairly complex 'levelisation' process so that the overall costs are spread uniformly across them all.
They can even charge for the costs of administering the scheme.
There are also exemptions whereby small electricity suppliers can opt out and refuse to accept Tariff customers in some cases.
    When are payments made?

If you use the same company that supplies your electricity to pay your Tariffs, they should hopefully do both at the same time. They may even choose to 'net these amounts off' and just pay a cheque or submit a bill for the difference.

or free if in reciept of benefits
call 07737518061. This is apparently the cheapest able to pay scheme in the country.

Not quite the cheapest - If you live in Carlisle, Eden or Barrow councils in Cumbria it's free for everyone regardless of income.

If you live in Copeland or Allerdale council. again in Cumbria it's £25.

If you live in South Lakeland District Council in Cumbria again - it's £49.

Access these grants by ringing 0800 093 5239 or booking on www.bookmysurvey.com quoting ICE Summer as the promotional code and have your council tax evidence ready for when your surveyor calls. :j

  • This cold weather has really shown up those who havent got proper loft insulation.

Those without have suffered from roof avalanches taking the guttering off as the snow falls.

There are some great deals around and i was talked into it by my wife who had been doing her sums.

We used a company called Dyson Insulation. As far as i am aware they cover a lot of the North East out of one depot.

I think we paid about £125 to get the whole loft done.
  • No sign of any cheap loft insulation offers for the coming winter?

I have at last cleared enough of my loft and put in some home made racking for the [STRIKE]junk [/STRIKE]family heirlooms.
