what benefits can i claim after voluntary redundancy?

Options
Hi,

im really not sure if this is the right board :o but my company are offering voluntary redundancies at the moment and as im on maternity leave i am seriously considering it. my eldest will be starting school next year so i will have to leave my job at some point because of school holidays so i might as well do it now with some money in my pocket. :T
i am already looking for another job as i really cant afford to be unemployed, but my question is. if i cant find another job in time am i able to claim benefits? if so which ones.

thanks for your help

    You have a PM

If your income has changed, then it can affect any tax credits that you will get. You can try entering details on entitledto.com and see if the figures change.

You don't mention whether you are single or married/with partner, as any benefits will be affected by the total household income.

I think (but am not sure, alas) that it doesn't actually make any difference to benefits whether a redundancy is voluntary or forced on you (because vol red so often turn into forced ones if no-one takes them up! :p )

Can anyone confirm this? If so, your redundancy sounds heaven-sent! :D

lol it would be heaven sent if i can get another job before i go!

it would probably help if i could update my cv with my current job but i've been doing it 4 years and I DONT KNOW WHAT I DO! :rotfl: i must be the only person to be in a job for 10 years and not know what they've been doing for the last 4

If you are going to claim Income Support, it does not matter why your job ended. As this benefit is means tested you may not be entitled though.

Depending on how much a lump sum you get it may mean you have too much 'savings' to get income support
