I found out a few weeks ago from my employer that I will need to be DV cleared in the future. I havent been through this kind of process before, and Im really worried about it. I get nervous in job interviews, let alone in an interrogation! Can they really check home internet useage? When I was a student 5 years ago, I downloaded some music of the net - will something like this hinder my clearance? If you dont pass the DV, do they take away your standard SC? I have been at my work for a year a half and I dont really want to look elsewhere. I need to pass the DV in order to progress with my career. I hope someone can answer my questions, many thanks in advance.
No they dont revoke SC.
Yes they really do check your internet useage. I wouldn't worry about downloading illegal music.0 -
I have recently had my Vetting interview and I must say I was very nervous.
Anyway, it turned out to be quite a pleasant experience, although some of the questions were of a very personal nature. The Vetting Officer was a lovely person and although I appreciate they were doing their job was really easy to talk to. (three hour interview).
My previous employer who also had a Vetting Interview said the same.
This week my personal referees have their Interviews.
The process is rather long winded I am afraid. I completed the forms in November and as of today still going through the Vetting system.
As you have passed basic security I wouldn't worry to much.0 -

Sort of - you won't loose your SC just for not passing DV, unless they find out something new that itself disqualifies you from SC (eg you're a recreational heroin user)

It's not an interogation, nor should you be made to feel like it is one. That is actually explained in the guidance pack that is given out at the time of application.
Like people have already said, it's a check to see if you've got a shady past that you could be vulnerable to blackmail, if you're capable of outright lying to them about your situation (cross checked against your interviewed references) and if you've got any major outstanding issues like a foreign partner or money problems.
I have known situations where something has been uncovered by a DV process that did get an SC revoked but I should imagine this is a rare occasion and something must have been uncovered that was pretty terrible.
Just be open and honest about everything, if you have something dark to hide, don't even bother going for the clearance. If you watch !!!!!! and download mp3s, tell them, chances are they'll know anyway. All any sponsoring customer will be doing is to find out if you're suitable to work with the levels of information you will be dealing with on a daily basis, trustworthy and honest to them. They are not the police to arrest you for downloading mp3s etc, that is the job of the Police force0 -
Just found out that OH's vetting was delayed because he'd told them that his Father was still alive. We found out last week he died a year ago and nobody had told him.......Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
