Ryanair hand luggage - Any weird or wonderful ideas?

I have a cheap wheelie case from Argos - £15. It has been put in the measuring box, when not expanded, and qualified fine.
I have only had my luggage weighed once, on the way back from Carcassonne. The airport was very quiet. Having said that it is a perfectly ok weight allowance. It's taught me to pack lighter for other trips, too. We can now usually get some duty free in the case, too! And we moan less about hauling cases around the other end, which is handy for a travelling rather than sun bathing trip. If you will only be taking your luggage from the airport to the hotel, the pound section what I call laundry bags sound good.
Have a lovely time.0 -
On the way back I used to worry about the weight of the bag since I always like to shop a bit, and Ryanair can do random weight checks, which could set you back a fortune. I got a portable scale at amazon and always carry it with me, that way I can play with the weights and items before reaching the airport and avoid the stress of eventually having to do it there.0

i'm going to the canaries v soon for 1 week and have not bought the 'extra 5 kg' (so i have 15kg Hold and 5kg Hand) in the hold that was recomended to me so i'd fully enjoy my holiday...
so, i just weighed EVERYTHING i might possibly want to take - 5 pairs of shoes, 3 skirts, 3 dresses, 8 tops, washkit, shawl, swim stuff, kaftan, book, towl... ect, in a heavy case and it only came to 12.7kg - so i have a bit left in the hold and still 5kg in the hand, so i neednt worry.
(oh and the Yorks agent told me that the weight allowance on the paperwork is aparently only for the Hold, so it might be worth checking.)Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. In the pound shop they have those striped bags with a top zip if you are brave enough to carry it (Iwould) anything to save money. It has to fit in that metal size thing. They dont worry about the weight I found so much only the size, but I still wont go over and remember shops abroad sell everything we do.
In Ryanair luggage thread last year there was a link to this type of bag on ebay which was 1.50 /2 but was exactly the right size. We go ryanair lots and have been skiing with only hand lugage(incl helmets). We wore all our ski stuff and filled our ski jackets with heavy stuff. We have a small scale thing and use it for every flight. I shop in tesco sale etc for small cheap sunlotion < 100ml etc. We have v.thin beach towels which we take and we pack some travel wash in case we want to wash something to cut down on packing. Wear your heavy shoes/jeans/jkt. We throw stuff away as well as the kids always buy stuff so often buy cheap white tshirts and if they are stained dump.0 -
I suppose that is where George and Primark clothes come into their own, you can wear them on holiday and leave the things that you aren't bothered about.0

That made me laugh so much ... this is a thread about squishing down on stuff!!! What's wrong with one pair of flip flops??
Fair play if you can get 5 pairs in :T:T:T0 -
When I went to Venice with my sister 2 years ago, the very fact of her putting a bag in the hold meant that BOTH of us had to pay to check-in, both ways.0

Buy each person a flyfishing vest (you can get them on e-bay) they have LOADS of pockets, inside and out. Buy one size up than you normally need as you'll be putting things in the pockets, and that takes up space.
I always travel with one of these - my passport/money/camera/mobile/ipod/book for the flight/ plus various extras all go in the pockets, as well as a trusty fabric handbag and a bigger fabric tote bag that both fold down to next to nothing. I also wear my heaviest/bulkiest shoes/boots and fleece, and also wear layers that I can strip off if I get too warm.
Once on the flight I unload the stuff into the bags. I buy toiletries, shampoo, suncream etc when I get there, and give it away or dump it before returning.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

:T glad it made you laugh!
i dont think i'm going to take 5 pairs of shoes - but it was a very good exercise to learn that on the lowest Hold allowance, there was lots of weight left
given i'm paying for the full weight, i think i'll take:
- plastic flipflops for beach/pool
- toe post sandals for wandering when i get blisters from the plastic ones!
- wedge sandals for evenings
- pumps for flight and wandering around (its a 7am flight so i'll be v cold leaving home if i went in flipflops!)Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. I love the idea of a fly fishing vest! I have seen those photographer type waistcoats, with lots of pockets, and have often thought about getting one of those. (presumably they are the same thing)
I will have a look on e bay, thanks for tip
