Property near rail road - how bad is that?

I am going to buy a nice property but it is 20 yards close to rail road (Willesden Junction). The price is very attractive but how bad is that to live near the rail road and would it be difficult to sell or let it? The windows are double glazed. Any ideas, any thoughts?

    The choice is yours.

    Mum bought a place on the 'wrong' side of railway, which meant you had to allow an extra 10-20mins to get across and onto the main road etc.

    But what this meant was it allowed them to get a 3 bed (instead of 2 1/2), with carport, and a huge garden out the back. With access to great parks and a fab play grp / primary sch etc

    So despite the noise (which you do gt used to), and extra time required to go anywhere, it was well worth the inconvenience, and it allow my folks to buy something for 10 yrs instead of 4. NM the fact they then divorced 4 yrs after the purchase.

    I used to live about 100ft from a railway line (trains every 15 minutes during day) and I now live a bit closer to another railway line (trains every hour but more frequent freight). Personally I don't find it a problem.
  • I too live close to a rail line where trains run about every 10-15 mins. After a while you don't really notice the noise, you get used to it!

    Before we lived in a flat with the metropolitan line running directly behind it - that was only slightly more disruptive due to the fact that if we had windows open you couldn't hear the tv for a few seconds! However, again this didn't really impact that much - we just opened windows further away from the TV instead!

    If the windows in your flat a double glazed, there should be no problem. It may put off some tenants / buyers in the future but on the other hand it would make no odds to others.

    Thousands of people live within 20yds of a railway and as has been said most people learn to live the noise and vibration , I don't think you will have any problems renting or selling there are always plenty of people willing to compromise..
    I was told 5yrs ago that the area you are thinking of buying in is the 'New Notting Hill' ..."rolls eyes"......

    I lived very close to the railway line (West Coast Main line plus local Euston to Watford Junction). I can honestly say that it never bothered me, in fact, I used to find it quite comforting and miss the noise now that I have moved.

    There used to be occasional maintenance work going on in the night time and that could be a bit noisy but it has to be done.

    I always say, better a railway line than a motorway.
