Denver to Dallas - questions

I am considering a tow week road trip in August. I will be booking open jaw tickets to Denver, flying back from Dallas to the UK.

I have two teenage daughters. Will probably spend a few days in Denver doing the Theme Parks & Water Parks. Would like to travel east to Oklahoma city, and then south to Dallas

Does this seem like a sensible holiday? Not sure what there is between Denver and Oklahoma City.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

The other question I have, is about the weather. Can we be confident of getting good weather in Colorado? (I know there are no guarantees).

Other ideas are

Few days at a Dude Ranch
Zoos
Shopping!

Many thanks

Denver is in Colorado and is perhaps one of the best US states for independent travel.

    Look here: http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/weaver/coovg109/

Texas is fantastic and if you go at the right time of year there is so much to do, look out for fairs and rodeos and music festivals.
Oklahoma City is worth a day stop but not much more.

If it was me i would re consider your route since both Oklahoma State and Kansas offer very little.

  • Mr Lahey,

thanks very much for your reply, and especially the link!

We have done Texas for the last 8 years running, and so we thought a change would be good. The reason we were flying back from Dallas, is that I hate flying,so I prefer to do non-stop

Maybe we should start looking at New Mexico from Colorado?

    Thanks again

Can't helpmuch with the Northern stuff, but we lived in Texas for a couple of years. our most memorable visits were probably the following. Not in any particular order.

    The rodeo in Dallas

A holiday at Beavers bend, Oklahoma

Best Steak ever, looks posh but very family friendly, even the kids always asked to go back. Peppered steak, mash and creamed corn. Mmmmmm!

Great views of Dallas, and good food

San Antonio is also worth a visit. Everyone talks about the Alamo, but personally the highlight of my visit was the Riverwalk

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

    Wish I was still there!!!!
  • Hi

    Thanks for your replies.

I have now decided to do all of the holiday in Colorado!

Will spend 4 days in Denver doing theme park, waterpark, zoo & aquarium, and then hit the road - probably south and west.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be really grateful!

Texas is going to be hard to beat!

Quite lik the idea of rafting, and I believe there is a lot of this in Colorado. Toyed with the idea of a Dude Ranch, til I saw the prices! Well worth it I'm sure, but a bit steep for me.

    Thanks
