Renting Keyworker in tears - please help! :(

Making my new monthly rental charges £776.09 (I also have band C council tax which I get single person supplement for but still works out £90 a month; plus other bills... electric, gas, food, phone bill etc... to pay) I don't really have any luxuries - no sky TV or pricey mobile phone contract so try to not spend out of my means.
Unfortunately my NHS wages do not increase to match these revised rent charges. I earn £1200 a month after tax. I cannot afford to pay this revised rent as it is a struggle as it is. I do not spend much money on myself and do not want to have to just work to have all my salary going just on bills. There is no incentive for me to get up in the morning.
Two weeks ago you didn't live on your own?
"I’m fortunate enough to still be able to work full time for an understanding employer & I am also awarded DLA. My partner also works full time (we live together) and we have no children."

Two weeks before that your rent was a completely different amount?
"Both me & My partner work full time (both earn around 17k a year each)
We lived together in a one bedroom flat on the 2nd floor which is unlifted for around a year. I am disabled (Meniere's disease) and progressively transfers and stairs became a struggle on my bad days. Getting in and out of our flat became a problem for me as there our no lift facilities...we decided reluctantly that I should move back with my parents who are on the ground floor until we can find somewhere more appropriate. (we are now on the council waiting list but unfortunately working, childless couples are not deemed priority in my borough!) Anyway, My partner continues to live in this flat on his own and the rent is £860 a month (supposedly subsidised as he is a keyworker) & £1200 a year in council tax..."

Everyone is a key worker. Bus drivers, cleaners, bricklayers, street sweepers, factory workers, managers, checkout girls. It's called society.princeofpounds wrote: »Personally I think the whole idea of 'keyworkers' or 'affordable housing' is a total nonsense. It was just a government ploy to get developers (and ultimately private housebuyers as a result) to subsidise low wages for public sector workers. The end effect of the policy was is to make housing more, not less, expensive although it's only been a very marginal factor.Been away for a while.0 -

this one's good as well. managed to afford a 5* holiday despite the rent being impossible to afford and having no money left to spend on self.

There were loads more inconsistencies, I refrained from posting them all as the disability was the only consistent part of the story.

you'll find it is a luxury for a mid-20s keyworker to live alone!
i think you need to think about whether you can afford the luxury of having your own place - it appears that you can't.0
