First Time Buyer advice needed.

Hi,
I am a first time buyer. Me and my partner put an offer in on a house 2 weeks ago which has been accepted.
Early last week we applied for our mortgage, where we were told by our Independent Mortgage Advisor that the surveyor would be out at the end of the week beginning of this week, and that the house wouldn't be removed from the market until this had happened. On Thursday last week we had a call from our Independent Mortgage Advisor saying that we needed to send proof of our deposit to the mortgage advisor, along with how we obtained the funds, and that they wouldn’t be sending out a surveyor until they have the statements. - as it is we have sent them our savings statements but these are over 6 months old and don't reflect our current financial standing. - the bank is sending out up-to -date statements that should be with us by the end of this week / early next week.

Our estate agents will not take the property of the market until the survey has been done, they have told us however that no-one will view the property we are buying, but that doesn’t fill us with confidence as the property is marketed with 3 estate agents, and when we went to view our property they wanted to show us around one of the houses that already had an offer in on with another estate agents! (The people buying that house moved in at the weekend, so they must have been fairly progressed in their purchase when they wanted to show us around it).

Is there anything we can do to speed up getting the surveyor out? Is there anything else we can do to get our estate agents to get a Sold sign up outside the property? And will this give us any protection from Gazumping??

Thanks
:)
