Co Op Cashminder Direct Debit

I think I have made a boo boo, should I have waited until tomorrow to have cancelled a DD (for future payments) where the payment has been deducted correctly today.
I rang the Co Op but they say I have to wait until midnight to find out if ok.
Info. on their website looks to me to contradict itself
You can ask us to stop or cancel a payment provided:
• the amount has not already been deducted from your account
• we have not told the payee or their bank that it will be paid
• if a cheque, it has not been guaranteed by your cheque guarantee card
• if it is a standing order or direct debit, your request is made by 8pm on the working day payment is due to be debited, and
• it is not a cash or card payment. If you want to cancel a direct debit or other regular payment tell us, but you must also tell the person or organisation that collects the payment that you have cancelled it.
3.6 When you write a cheque it is important to take all reasonable precautions to prevent anyone else altering it

Nope; if you cancelled today the amount will be returned unpaid.

Phew !!!
The direct debit is still showing as paid, TG and I have just removed it from my DD list.
It is weird that even the bank didn't know whether it would clear my account or not!
I continue to scratch my head!0 -

How weird. I cancelled on the day of payment about three years ago, and the payment was reversed the same day. Perhaps they have changed their procedures?43580
