I saw on Bbc breakfast this morning that the co-op is offering free 2 day training courses to encourage urban bee keeping. At the end of the course you'll receive a free hive and bees in your starter pack.
I've been surfing to try and find a bit more info, up to now this is all i can find but it's in Manchester and i'm in Merseyside.
It may be of interest to some Mancs or you may find a bit more in your area.

So unfair, it looks like its just for people living in Manchester. I would love to keep bee's but don't feel confident at doing so, and such would love to do this training.

I'm sure if you contacted your local beekeepers association - http://www.britishbee.org.uk/local_associations_about_us.php - you would be made very welcome and be given all sorts of help, training and advice. OK so you might not end up with a free beehive but I'm sure making contact with local longstanding beekeepers is at least as useful as a one off training course. When we spoke to the group at a local fete last year they seemed very keen to welcome new people.

WestonDave thanks for that, i've just checked it out and they have a training course in Liverpool on 20/3/10 and 27/3/10 at a cost of £55.
I'll go and try and find out a bit more, it says places are limited and must be pre-booked.
