Car Insurance in Germany

How do you insure a vehicle while posted abroad? My son is posted in Germany and wants to buy a camper van in the Uk and take it to Germany. Will there be a problem with this? Does it have to be registered in Germany and can a British Company insure it? Thanks for any advice.

All the necessary information is available to your son through his unit.

But briefly; yes, lots of people drive to their posting in BFG and then have a certain amount of time to register the vehicle through the BFG system. He will need to have continental lights fitted and current MOT. There are several UK companies who will insure BFG vehicles - as I said, your son will have access to all the info he needs over there.

In BFG there is (short) list of approved insurers and he has to use one of them.

There is a surprising price difference as each seems to concentrate on a certain type of punter.

He has 28 days from arriving in his unit to start the registration process but it takes a while to complete it.
