Ideas for Canapes

I am bridesmaid for my best friend in June. The ceremony is in a castle, on top of a cliff, and involves a fair trek down steps on one cliff, and up another! (I am assuming we will be changing into our dresses there!!).

Anyhow, they want to serve canapes after the ceremony, with champagne, before we go on to the reception.

The canapes need to be easy to prepare, transport and cope with maybe sitting for a wee while. I suggested an afternoon tea type thing - mini scones, mini cupcakes and that sort of thing.

Any other ideas gratefully recieved! :T

Afternoon tea sounds lush, are you planning on making it yourselves? I'm going to make some of these http://www.bakerella.com/category/pops-bites/cake-pops/
for while we're having our photos taken, and possibly some bitesize cookies to go with them.

Yes, they will be homemade. I thought the afternoon tea idea was quite good in that we can do the baking in advance and freeze the bits and pieces, to reduce the work in the week leading up to the wedding! Those cake pops are ace! I dont have the patience though, or the expertise! I can handle a cupcake with some edible glitter sprinkled on the top, but thats about my limit!!:rotfl:

I really like the tea idea, you could have mini muffins, scones etc, although not sure how well they'd go with champagne.
You could have a search through here

Well they do champagne cream teas at the Ritz in London, so you've had a very posh idea!! Take a look here and here

I would go with tiny sandwiches if you can too, maybe cucumber on white bread or smoked salmon with black pepper & a squeeze of lemon on brown bread?

Then mini-scones, mini cupcakes, mini eclairs, even mini fruit jellies?

Lol! I love vol-au-vents! Great suggestions! A friend has quails so we could make mini scotch eggs with the quails eggs! I am definately thinking the 'mini' option is the way to go, anything looks cute when its mini!
