Hi my Pc has always worked very well so anything odd would stick out quite quickly. Yesterday it was verhot and it locked up twice in a few hours. Each time I restaarted and it worked fine for a while but I suspect the temperature was high in the PC.

So I decided after searching around on this site to download SPEEDFAN so I could check. Few problems here. 1. how accurate is it? 2. what does temp1 , temp2 and the second temp1 mean, I assume HD0 is the harddrive? 3. what temperature is acceptable, I have 60 on HD0 and 54 on Temp1, 52 on Temp2 and 38 on the second Temp1. Any ideas?

What temperature should I panic at?

If it helps, on startup today the temps were as follows, temp1 37, temp2 41, HD0 30, and Temp1 38.

Any info appreciated before I go to meltdown.

    Im not sure about the questions you asked but can I suggest this;

    take the case off you PC (after you turn it off obviously) and get a hairdryer and blow all the dust from the cooling fan inside your pc. Then try your best to get as much of the dust out as possible. I done this a few weeks ago after my comp getting really hot. It works a treat. Sorry if this doesn;t help.

    Depends what CPU you have. Intels and AMD are completely different.....and have different specifiactions on running temps.

    Also, what speed Intel or AMD is it?

    I have a AMD 3200+ Barton core and it can run to something like 85degs (even though I would never do this)

    I have my BIOS set to turn my p.c off automaticaly if the CPU temp exceeds 63degs.

    I have Pentium 4 with intel chip 2.67 GHz if that helps for a maximum temperature?

    I use free software called HDThermometer (https://www.rsdoft.com) which monitors the Hard Drive temp. My Seagate drive is o.k. up to 60 degrees C. I'd be worried about your Hard Drive temp - check the spec. on it using Google. I fitted a Hard Drive cooler from pc world (just over 6 quid) that has made a big difference, plus a PCI exhaust fan (about a fiver) which is ok for the money. The HD temp was up as high as 53C before the HD cooler was fitted; at the moment its 45C in a south-facing conservatory.

    Buy cooling stuff from eBuyer to save a considerable amount, or run it with the side panel off for a bit, see if that makes any difference.

    Anything above 50 degrees is bad for a hard disk. Most are only rated to 53.

    As for the others, it really depends on the type of cpu and which sensors they actually are. Real core temperature measured using a sensor in the chip can go as high as 70-80 degrees, while still only showing 50 odd on the sensor under the processor on the mainboard.
