I hate british gas!!!!

Options
It cant be right, but British Gas increased my kw price to almost 20p per unit in January. When I phoned them to check it out they tell me they wrote to me in August to notify me my contract would end in January, as I didnt contact them they assumed the contract should be renewed and Im now stuck with it til next January. This increase is going to cost me around another £900 this year (we're not very eco-friendly). How can I have a contract with them when I didnt sign anything ever. HELP:eek:

can you tell us what tariff you are actually on
I can not see any bg tariff which has a flat rate of 20p per kwh.
note if you are not on a capped tariff then you can ask them to change you to any tariff they advertise

Assuming you are stuck in a contract:
    a) Become 'eco-friendly'
    b) switch and the cancellation cost will be more than outweighed by the 900 quid saving

However, I would suggest you make a complaint, if you shout loud enough the chances are they'll grudgingly move you onto another rate.

Firstly, nobody signs a contract with any Utility Company these days. If you use a company's gas or electricity you have entered a legally binding deemed contract.

The alternative is not to use any gas and electricity and request you are disconnected.

Secondly, is not the 20p/kWh for the first 125kWh a quarter?

What did you want BG to do?

Sounds possible. If you are talking GAS prices then my BG price is 18.855p on WebSaver5. If you are talking the new scheme they tried to get me on (Price Guarantee March 2011) the it would have been 24.563. I believe Standard tarrif is 22.661. Check out the tarrifs in the BG Site to confirm which one it is.

This was a few weeks back I checked these so they may have changed a tad now.

As Cardew said, the higher rate is for the first 125kWh, so I don't really see the problem...

Get on a switching site, find the best deal and get moved, as said whatever it costs to get you out is nothing compared to savings made.

It depends on how much they save. Besides, I though that contracts were on a rolling quarterly basis anyway?

It sounds to me like this is for a business, not a home?
If so it will be built into the original contract, and you'll have more difficulty breaking it. (residential contracts are for 28 days, even if they have exit fees, commercial ones are measured in years)

No. Domestic contracts are monthly, but business contracts are tied - usually in unit sizes of years.
