Proper advice should challenge the client about what they will do should the worst happen. I'd say that this is an essential part of the process: it might be uncomfortable, frightening even, but unless the client has considered the implications of having little or no cover, the adviser hasn't done a good job. When this is done poorly, the result can be disillusioned clients who feel that they have been pushed into buying policies they don't need.

dunstonh - I haven't heard of PHI before, do you know where I could fin out more/get a quote?

Permanent health insurance (PHI) is the best form of income protection. It has guaranteed premiums, its underwritten at application state (and not at claim like PPI) and it can pay out until you are 65 if you want it to.

You will need an IFA if you want it though as it has virtually no internet coverage (or very limited at best). This is because many providers do not make the product available on quote comparison sites as quote sites prefer PPI which has less admin and is more profitable for them.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.
