Cancelling policy taken out online

Hello
Can anyone help me? I want to know whether I'm entitled to cancel a car insurance policy taken out online if I change my mind soon after. I thought this was a straightforward yes - distance selling regulations - but I just read something in the policy I'm about to take out which says that if the cover starts before I cancel then I wouldn't be entitled to a full refund. Does anyone know the answer?

I think that it depends who you are with. I signed up with Prudential today and had this listed -How to cancel. If you find this insurance does not meet your requirements please return the certificate within 14 days of receipt and your premium or part premium (as applicable) will be refunded in full provided you have not made a claim under the policy. For details of how to register a complaint or how to cancel a policy, please refer to the Policy Summary0

Under the FSA regulations you have up to 14 days to cancel from either the date of the policy starting or the date you receive the policy documents - which ever is later. If you cancel after the start of the policy they can charge you for the days cover that you have had.
Distance selling regs dont apply to financial products but that is due to the FSA having their own rulesAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
