VIN number missing

I have been driving my dads Fiesta while I try and find myself a new motor. We have had the car for nearly three years and it has full service history, all the past MOTs and there has never been any issues which suggests its dodgy, the car drives straight etc.

The VIN on near the drivers door is missing, its the same colour as the rest of the car and it dosn't like it has been tampered with its just missing (it should be etched into the floor itself)

The vins of the front of the car all match and are not tampered with. There is no signs the car has ever been resprayed or anything and all the trim fits perfectly.

So I am confused, the drivers mirror is has been replaced so could be that car has had an accident and that area of the car been professionaly repaired?

An HPI check shows the chasis number, engine and reg plate all match etc.

Is there any other VINS to the rear of the car I could check? It is a Fiesta MK4.

Just want to be sure its not a cut and shut. I know the front part of the car is untouched everything adds up and the back looks original too it is just a little bit worrying that the VIN is missing.

I am guessing its just been in a side on so that part of the car has been rewelded. The service is history is top notch and there is a lot of receipts. I know the car failed its MOT four years ago for rust in drivers side seat belt anchorage area but if the garage welded a plate thre would they go to the trouble of repsraying it perfectly?

But you have had it 3 years with I assume 3 MOT's and no problems. So if it was welded and that part was cut out what is that going to tell you?

I think my last car only had one vin plate, the engraved chassis number, and the engine block number covered in oily mucky crap somewhere. I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe there was never a vin plate there?!

That seems to the most logical thing but I would have thought it was odd for the Ford to have done that. The last car the was sold in a main dealer was 2002 and after that the car wouldn't have had enough value to bother ringing it.

The car handles perfectly at 70mph and drives in a perfectly straight line, there has never been an issue with tracking or anything.

Is the vin no. between the dashboard and front windscreen? On older Fords (I don't know about newer one's) they used to have a flap in the carpet next to the driver's seat and when you lifted the flap the no. was underneath, stamped in the bodywork. This may have been replaced with the one in the windscreen.
