There are heaps. Most of the street side cafes do a a 2 or 3 course lunch special some even do it with wine. Just wander around, they usually have street signs. Was there a couple of years ago and was never disappointed with the food."A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain." I personally prefer Tapas when in Barcelona, although there is a good fish restaurant place on Las Ramblas on the left hand side as you go down near the history of sex museum, Restaurant Pinxto I think.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Thank you for your help. Since I posted the question I've found a good site https://www.ivebeenthere.co.uk which I seem to remember is a spin off from a tele programme. There is good information on it. lots of stuff about eating places in the area that we are going to.0

Price range: EUR 30 for dinner for two, without wine
Metro: Poble Sec0 -

I can't remember many names, but we were pleased with all the ones we picked from the selection in the Rough Guide.
One excellent (but a little pricey!) restaurant we used was called Taxidermista on Placa Reale (it used to be a taxidermists but is now very lovely and posh with no stuffed animals in sight). Very beautiful square to relax and continue drinking til the early hours if you wish....
Our experience of popping in to ones we passed in the street was a bit hit and miss. The tourist restaurants, especially on the Ramblas (main tourist street) tended to sell overpriced rubbish like over-cooked steak and chips. If you step onto the side streets you'll get much better value from the ordinary menus than you will from the fixed price menus on the main streets.
I also second the tapas idea - really good value for quick meals and snacks and often the most basic looking cafes will be licensed and serve huge measures of spirits with your meal.....
Enjoy!

if you want something a bit more interesting than the usual tapas with a great side helping of style (and excellent wines by the glass), try Onofre in the carrer de les Magdalenes. Here's a review: http://www.bcninternet.com/restaurant_details.php?contentid=620
It's in the Barri Gotic down a tiny side street off the Via Laietana, and I can vouch for the friendliness and the excellent food - it was next door to an apartment we rented and I just loved it.Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.0 -
We went to Hard Rock Cafe for quickness as we were on a flying visit. Very satisfactory. It's near La Ramblas.0

Not wanting to start an argument but in my opinion, recommending 'a' Hard Rock Cafe is pretty poor. There are over 10,000 restaurants in Barcelona and you can enjoy some of the best cooking in the world...or you could go to Hard Rock Cafe :shocked:0

My Favourite Restaurant in Barcelona is Les Quatre Gats, Barcelona

It was a local shop owner that pointed us in the direction of the restaurant and it really was great. Live Piano + Violinist etc.0
